This is a blog originally written for LNY Wigs of West Palm Beach, FL

We decided to bring a little bit of history and humor to our blog today and give our audience a little insight into exactly how long and for what reasons we have been cutting, styling and wearing someone else's hair :)

In this History Series, we will cover interesting facts, and give you tips on the oldest and the newest trends in the World of Wigs.

Wigs in the Pyramids

Our earliest experiences with wigs began in 3400 B.C. in the hot, dry climates of Egypt. Aside from being designated as a source of protection from the sun, the use of wigs signified social status, and religious divinity.

The elite of the Egyptians society would wear wigs made of human hair that were embellished with cones made of animal fat.

These cones would then be scented with rare, exquisite oils and the hair would be curled and pleated into slim braids. Braid would then be attached to a skull cap made out of beeswax.

The less affluent wore wigs made of wool and plant fibers.

Aside from societal rank, wigs would assist in maintaining scalp cleanliness and health by reducing the incidence of head lice.

The Evolution of the Lace front Wig

The Nubian wig, a favorite of Queen Nefertiti, had soft, bouncy curls, which allowed for more manageability and an active, more flexible appearance. It took an average of 200 hours to complete a mesh base wig.

What is a Lace front Wig?

A lace front wig, is a type of wig where hair is independently hand tied to a delicate, sheer and nearly invisible lace fabric. The thin strip of lace gives the wig the appearance of having a natural hairline.

The benefits of a lace front wig is that the individual wearing it can style it without limitations.

Having the appearance of a more natural hairline, the lace front can be worn freely, where hair can be worn off and away from the face without making it look unnatural.

Due to its versatility, front lace wigs have a higher value and are more expensive than regular cap wigs.

Compared to the full lace wig, the front lace wig is more durable, and less vulnerable to damage.

We at LNY would love to be part of your journey and offer a variety of styles and price ranges to accommodate your needs.

What is a Full lace Wig?

A full lace wig has the cap made entirely out of sheer lace. This allows the wearer to have the freedom to pull it up into a pony-tail, a bun or a similar style.

Due to its ability to be worn during activities such as swimming, a full lace wig ranks higher among users and is a great, long-term investment.
